American Liszt Society Southern California

The SoCal Chapter

President’s Greeting

Dear fellow musicians and the members of the Southern California Chapter of the American Liszt Society,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the ALS SoCal Chapter website!

We are thrilled to have you visit us and engage with our chapter, founded in 2016, when our late colleague and the first chapter president, Dr. Eugene Alcalay and myself found reason and impetus for the chapter’s creation during our brainstorming discussions while collaborating on the jury of the 2015 Liszt-Garrison Festival and International Piano Competition, sponsored by the Baltimore-Washington Chapter of the ALS.

The goal of creating another local chapter of the national American Liszt Society in our musically active area is to be able to disseminate the ideas and the ideals of Franz Liszt and the Romantic Era he represented, and through this lend support to musicians, composers, performers, teachers and students in the Southern California communities, which felt timely and relevant to us!

We are happy to have accomplished the creation of such an organization, and our highly gifted and experienced board of directors is eager to promote our goals to new levels of engagement with the help of all of you!

We hope you will visit these pages and become involved in the activities of our society. We will continually publish announcements of our upcoming events as well as archival materials of the events past.

Please, visit us frequently to stay current with our calendar of events!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincere yours,

Dmitry Rachmanov, DMA
President, Southern California Chapter of the American Liszt Society
