American Liszt Society Southern California

The SoCal Chapter

Our Origin

The Southern California Chapter of the American Liszt Society was founded in 2016.

We are proud to be part of the National organization: the American Liszt Society (https://www.americanlisztsociety.net/).  By adding the SoCal Chapter to the other regional ALS chapters, our goal is to enhance and enrich the diverse musical life of Southern California by promulgating the ideals and music of Franz Liszt and his contemporaries, and by offering added opportunities to musicians, music teachers and students of this part of the country.

The mission of the Southern California Chapter of the American Liszt Society is as follows:

The Chapter is dedicated to fostering an awareness and love of Franz Liszt’s work, spirit and mission throughout Southern California, and disseminate the music and ideas of the Romantic Era he represented.

To realize and implement this mission of ours, we engage in a variety of activities, such as:

  • Hosting a biennial ALS Southern California Chapter Festival, comprising concerts, masterclasses, lectures and workshops for young musicians and teachers, all of which are open to general public. As part of the day-long festival, we award prizes for best performances in different performance categories to our young participants
  • Bringing in invited guests of international stature for guest-artist performances/masterclasses/workshops to support local teachers and their studios in Southern California by creating opportunities for them in all-year round events, sponsored by our chapter
  • Supporting and cooperating with like-minded local organizations. We are proud to be affiliated with the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, which has served the musical community of southern California and beyond for the last thirty years by hosting the biennial international competition.
We continue to broaden our engagement with local musicians, institutions and organizations and welcome your ideas and suggestions.
